Saturday July 23rd

Had a low key morning. Ate breakfast at the lodge and then met James around 9:00. He is a Masai who started a school under an Acacia tree. He showed us around the village before we visited the school.  He took us into a mud hut which the women make and if they need to move for better grazing for their cattle then they just build another one.

Highlight of the village visit was one male asking dad to teach him how to use the Ipad.  He picked it up in about 2 minutes and then walked around filming his friends and then they watched themselves and cracked up.

James had the opportunity to receive an education and wanted to give the kids in his village a similar experience. This school grew from one tree, to two, then three, then a building and one month ago a 6 room school house. Now, that is progress! There are about 250 students in the school and James makes sure that the girls get to go to school as well.He is very forward thinking.

Greer and Cooper were given a science test to take while the kids were taking theirs. We were all expecting them to get their first poor marks but they both got A's.

During our night drive we came upon 2 jackals.  Tim just muttered something about a jackal.  Clearly if he doesn't have to work for it the excitement diminishes.  It ended up being a highlight moment because this ridiculous animal who is really scrawny was yipping at the lions as if he could make them leave the watering hole he wanted to go to.

On our last night in Amboseli Mt. Kilimanjaro finally came out.  Joel and Tim planned our mountain viewing perfectly (surprise, surprise) and as we arrived to take a shot 3 elephants walked in for a picture perfect moment.

We then had a "sundowner" atop a plateau.

Favorite bird:
Well this might not be our favorite but we waited for a really long time for him to turn his head and when he did we got the perfect shot.
